Portugal – A Travel Destination That Has My Heart <3

That’s Me! Standing on a stone wall overlooking the fields of the Alentego, Portugal – 2011

Portugal has always been a top travel spot for my family and I growing up. My parents were immigrants from there and we went back practically every-other summer to visit family, each year we got to experience a bit more of the beautiful country. I would spend most of my summers riding down the small streets and walking along the sidewalks made of calçada (Portuguese stones), often creating beautiful pieces or art. Going to the nearby beaches (Nazaré was the main one – close to my parents home) was always a must, the smell of salt water in the air and sound of the smashing waves along the shore still to this day has such an emotional and calming effect for me. The history of buildings, churches, sightings of olive trees, fig trees, cork trees, vineyards, and the smell of eucalyptus down the narrow roads are many reasons why I still love going!

Why should you consider going to Portugal? It has something for everyone! It doesn’t matter if your travelling alone or with a group of family or friends. Portugal has history, beaches, river cruses, mountains, hiking trails, and lets not forget the yummy food and desserts! There is more then nought to do that everyone will enjoy!

In the upcoming weeks I will post about different cities in Portugal that I have been to and describe experiences and places that you must see when you are there. Today being my first post, I just wanted to reflect upon the love I have for this beautiful country because lets face it, I could probably write a novel when it comes to Portugal and we don’t have all day! 🙂 Just add Portugal to your bucket list as a MUST SEE and you won’t regret that you did!
